🎯 Things to Do

🌾 Khau Pha Pass

Khau Pha Pass is where the annual paragliding activity takes place with the name “Flying Festival on Golden Season.” From here, pilots and tourists can experience the thrill of paragliding while admiring the panoramic view of Lim Mong valley during rice harvest season. Those interested should book tours in advance to secure a paragliding slot.

🌾 Lim Mong and Lim Thai Valleys

Lim Mong and Lim Thai valleys are where Thai ethnic villages are located in the valley right below Khau Pha Pass - one of Vietnam’s four great mountain passes. Crossing a romantic suspension bridge leads to narrow paths winding up the mountains. Visiting Lim Mong in September-October allows tourists to walk through the golden rice fields with ears heavy with grain.

Tourists can drive between the golden rice fields, admire peaceful villages during harvest season, meet people from children to elderly, or enjoy the cool mountain streams.

🌾 Terraced Fields

Terraced fields cover over 2,200 hectares of land in Mù Cang Chải. Among them, 500 hectares have been recognized as a national heritage site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, belonging to three villages: La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha, and De Xu Phinh.

🌾 Tu Le Commune

Tu Le Commune, Van Chan District, Yen Bai Province, located 3km from Khau Pha Pass, is famous for its characteristic glutinous rice variety. When rice begins to turn golden on the terraced fields, Thai people in Tu Le excitedly prepare new batches of green sticky rice to sell everywhere. Each kilogram of green sticky rice costs 120,000 VND.

You can rest overnight in Tu Le or drive straight from Tu Le to Mù Cang Chải town. Community guesthouses and local homestays in Mù Cang Chải rent for 100,000 - 400,000 VND per person per night. If staying overnight in Mù Cang Chải, tourists can visit the market to enjoy Thai ethnic food and have more restaurant options.

🌾 Mam Xoi Hill

Mam Xoi Hill is the iconic image of Mù Cang Chải’s golden season for many years. The hill is located in La Pan Tan, more than 8km from the town center. The journey is difficult, so visitors should stop and park before hiring local motorbike taxis to reach the destination. Additionally, near the hill there is a garden of buckwheat flowers and ethnic costume rental services for tourists to take photos. At the large Mam Xoi Hill, taking photos in the shed costs an additional 5,000 VND per person. Entering the rice fields costs 10,000 VND per person.

🌾 Horse Saddle Hill

Horse Saddle Hill in Sang Nhu, more than 2km from Mù Cang Chải town, features terraced fields in crescent shapes like paintings. Each rice harvest season attracts many photographers. Entrance fee for each spot is 20,000 VND for adults and 10,000 VND for children. Motorbike taxi service to the location costs 60,000 - 100,000 VND per person for a round trip.

🌲 Bamboo Forest of Na Hang Tua Village

60-year-old bamboo forest located 20km from Mù Cang Chải town center. This is also where bamboo shoots, a local specialty, are sourced. The path becomes very muddy and steep during rainy days. Tourists often have to walk or hire locals to transport motorcycles to the tourist spot due to the narrow, steep, and slippery dirt roads that cars cannot traverse.

🎠 Zipline

Vietnam’s longest zipline is located in the Aeris Hill adventure park at Nuoc Nong Hamlet, Tu Le Commune, Van Chan District. The zipline has 2 sections with a total length of 1.2km connecting Van Chan and Mù Cang Chải districts.

The first section is nearly 1km long, offering tourists a panoramic view of Tu Le valley and overlapping mountains. The second section will take guests down to the pick-up point to return to the entertainment area.

Currently, the Aeris Hill adventure park welcomes guests throughout the week (except Wednesdays) from 8

AM - 6 PM. Ticket prices for participating in games start from 200,000 VND per person.

🌊 Tram Tau Hot Springs

Tram Tau is approximately 100km from Mù Cang Chải but is a suitable destination if you decide to explore Yen Bai during rice harvest season. Here you can find hot springs from natural underground sources which are very beneficial for health, especially for people with joint pain. The area also serves as a homestay, so tourists who want to stay overnight need to book in advance. Not far from the hot springs area, there are free local stream bathing spots such as at Cọi Village and Hốc Village…

📅 Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi - Tram Tau Hot Springs

Traveling 220km from Hanoi to Tram Tau takes 5 hours. Tourists traveling by self-driven vehicles like motorcycles or cars should depart early to arrive near noon for rest and meals to regain energy. The route is Hanoi - Cau Trung Ha - Thanh Son - Thu Coc - Van Chan - Nghia Lo - Tram Tau. Tourists can choose an alternative by taking a bus from Hanoi to Nghia Lo, then calling a taxi to continue to Tram Tau.

Day 2: Khau Pha - Lim Mong, Lim Thai - Tu Le - Mù Cang Chải

From Tram Tau to Khau Pha Pass is nearly 90km, the road is still quite beautiful so it only takes about 2.5 hours of travel.

Day 3: Mam Xoi Hill - Horse Saddle Hill - Hanoi

The road segment from Tu Le to the town center of Mù Cang Chải is approximately 60km long and has many beautiful terraced field scenes that catch the eye. However, the most spectacular sights are still the villages of La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha, and Sang Nhu…
